Bellingen Show

Sat 5th to Sun 6th May 2018

Bellingen Show gets the thumbs up.

By all accounts, the Bellingen Show was a roaring success.

In the days prior, the weather appeared to be against us as volunteers, competitors, stall holders and Show Guild families worked tirelessly through rain and mud to set the stage for what everyone hoped would be an exciting show weekend.

Then right on queue the sun shone through to reveal the beautifully picturesque and uniquely Bellingen showground. Events, competitions, rides and judging began and visitors arrived in the thousands. The Gate ran out of tickets before first day’s end!

Record numbers of entries came in across the Beef & Dairy Cattle events to the point organisers were concerned about available space! But like the weather, everything fell into place.

The Showground Pavilion was transformed into a splendid vision of colour, talent and diversity with entry pieces spanning food, flowers, photography, craft and so much more.

Equestrian event participant numbers were a little down based on the dubious weather forecast, however this didn’t affect the superb display of skill by contestants and their horses across the various classes.

The Wood Chop Competition was well attended as always, and had the crowds holding their breath in anticipation.

The Grand Parade of horses, their riders and cattle, led by the Lighthorse Brigade in commemoration of 100 years since the Battle of Beersheba, officially opened the show on Saturday. Dignitaries and officials included Mitch Donavan as MC, Mayor Dominic King, Teal Rees who sang the National Anthem, Talissa Alford (Sportsperson of the Year) and Adrian & Amanda Betts. The ceremony provided colour and spectacle for the crowds.

Other competitions and events around the showground including the Young Farmer’s Challenge, Mongrel Dog Show, Fun Run, Partner Carrying Competition, Magic Shows, Reptile Displays, performances and live music added to the fun and atmosphere of what can only be described as a successful show.

Results across all categories and classes are available on the website
