Taree Show

The Manning River Agricultural and Horticultural Association was formed at a public meeting on January 21, 1878, by local farmers and businessmen. Land was secured in Manning, Wynter and Macquarie Streets, where the first showground and buildings were established. By 1910, the site had become too small, prompting the purchase of a new 65-acre ground north of Brown’s Creek. From there, steady development followed. In 1970, plans were made for a registered trotting track, funded by selling 18 acres for housing. Major works included relocating buildings and reclaiming swamp land with extensive fill. The first race meeting was held in May 1972
