2025 Winners
Congratulations to the 2025 AgShows NSW Award Winners!
Living Legend Award – Alex & Joyce Brain (Finley)
Alex and Joyce Brain have been devoted members of the Finley Show Society for over 70 and 50 years respectively, holding key roles such as Chief Poultry Steward and Secretary, while offering unmatched knowledge and hands-on support. Their quiet dedication, mentoring of new members, and tireless efforts behind the scenes have preserved the Show’s traditions and inspired generations within the Finley community.
Since joining the Lake Macquarie Show Society in 2018, Rebecca has taken on an impressive range of roles—from photographer to Secretary to Senior Vice President—while mentoring new members, coordinating multiple show sections, and introducing community-focused initiatives like the "Battle of the Badges" competition. Her leadership, dedication to youth engagement, and tireless behind-the-scenes work have had a lasting impact on the show’s growth, inclusivity and community relevance.
Innovation (Event Project) – Coonamble
When a date clash cancelled the 2025 Coonamble Show, the Society rallied to host A Night On The Town—a two-part street event combining a kids disco and an adult cocktail evening in Coonamble’s heritage venues. The initiative attracted 14 new committee members (many under 30), raised $10,000 in profit, and reignited community pride and youth involvement. By blending nostalgia with modern community spirit, the Show Society proved its resilience and creativity in the face of challenge.
Innovation (Technology) – Dubbo
What began as a spontaneous livestream from the pig ring turned into a viral behind-the-scenes video series showcasing the hidden magic of Dubbo Show—from poultry prep to Show legends like “The Chip Man.” Social media engagement soared, volunteers and sponsors were celebrated, and public curiosity transformed into deeper connection and attendance. By blending authenticity, humour, and heart, this creative storytelling project has become a treasured part of the Show experience.
Resilience Award – Gunning
After COVID, volunteer loss, and ride cancellations threatened Gunning Show’s future, the
Society rebranded, secured grants, added camel rides and science shows, and launched a
Friday night kickoff to reinvigorate the event. With record gate numbers in 2025 and 27 active committee members in a town of 500, Gunning’s bold vision and community-first thinking brought the Show back stronger than ever.
