Bathurst Royal Show

The Bathurst Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Association was founded in 1862, with its first show held in 1863. After using various venues, a 12½-acre site was secured and opened for the 1878 show, later expanding to 40 acres. Early developments included the introduction of night shows in 1880, improved with gas lighting in 1882 and electricity in 1893. Key structures followed, including the Caretaker’s Cottage in 1885 and a grandstand completed in 1891. The show has since become a major regional event, held annually over three days and two nights, and remains a focal point for community involvement and participation.
