Canberra Royal Show

Agricultural gatherings in the Hall and Ginninderra districts during the 1880s grew into an organised show in 1927, marking the beginning of the Canberra National Show. The society underwent several name changes before receiving the “Royal” prefix in 1979. As Canberra developed beyond a purely rural setting, the show expanded to include a broader range of attractions. A new showground site was established in the 1960s, allowing for continued growth and improved facilities. Ongoing development created a major venue capable of hosting large-scale events, with the show attracting strong public attendance and serving as a centre for exhibitions, sport and community activities.
