Wagga Wagga Show

The Murrumbidgee Pastoral Association, formed in 1865, was largely a graziers’ body, and its first show featured no agricultural exhibits, as farming developed later with the arrival of the railway around 1880. A separate Agricultural and Horticultural Society emerged in the 1870s, but both groups struggled until amalgamating in 1884 as the Murrumbidgee Pastoral and Agricultural Association. The name changed to Wagga Wagga Show Society in 1971. Beyond the show, the society supported libraries, lectures and competitions, and was among the first to demonstrate agricultural machinery on a large scale.
